In the terrifying ruins of Gaza, a light of hope shines amidst the difficulties and adversities. Three devoted souls, Walid, Aboud, and Mo, have been standing for over fifteen years in the service of compassion, following in the footsteps of Saint Francis of Assisi in their dedication to the most vulnerable creatures of this world, the stray animals of Gaza.

Walid feeding the cats
Like St. Francis, whose heart overflowed with compassion for every living thing, our Palestinian friends have dedicated their lives to caring for the stray animals that roam the dilapidated streets of Gaza.

Aboud and his son Louay
In a place where life itself is a constant struggle, they do service through their devotion to these innocent creatures. Like St. Francis who conversed with birds and wolves, our Palestinian friends forge deep bonds with the animals they encounter, offering them food, shelter, care and affection in a world often indifferent to their plight.

Here is Saba
Their benevolent presence is a ray of hope in the darkness of suffering, a poignant reminder of man’s ability to show compassion even in the most desperate circumstances.

Mo and his daughter Maria
Despite Gaza’s daily challenges and economic difficulties, Walid, Aboud and Mo remain steadfast in their commitment to the animals and to their community, sharing with them what little they have.

The stray cats of Gaza
Their example reminds us of the strength of human resilience and the ability to find light even in the darkest conditions of this world. So, in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi, our Palestinian friends embody the timeless values of compassion, generosity and love in action.

Aboud and a small part of their protégés
Their devotion to God’s creatures reminds us that even in the midst of suffering and adversity, there is always hope and light to illuminate our path.

Daddy Walid
May their example inspire each of us to cultivate compassion and extend the hand of love where it is most needed, in the most forgotten and neglected corners of our world.

Finding the necessary resources to express the Joy of living in difficult conditions is one of the strengths of our modern Saints-Francis.
We thank them with gratitude for their inspiring example and for the blessing of their presence in our lives.
